Delaware Approves Online Gambling

July 2, 2012

Recently we have reported on a string of events which lead us to believe that the way is opening up for online gambling to lose its shady stigma, and become a respectable market throughout the world. Firstly we had Bally Technologies being recommended by the Nevada Gaming Control Board for the first ever US online gambling license and we followed up on this story a few days ago to confirm the license has indeed been granted. Next we had news of Playtech floating its stock on the London Stock Exchange. Now we bring another piece of exciting online gambling legislation news. The State Senate has just passed a bill which will legalize online gambling in the State of Delaware.

The new bill was not unanimously agreed, and was passed with a 14 to 6 vote ratio, so support for online gambling in the USA is not total, and we expect a rocky path to eventual acceptance. The bill specifically allows three Delaware real world casinos to offer online versions of their slots, table games and keno games on the Internet. And although this is very much only a localized amendment to online gambling legislation, we firmly believe it is an indication of the fact that most states in the USA are beginning to realize the sheer volume of revenue they are missing out on by blocking online gambling in their area.

We cannot stress how much of a major event this is, especially following the recent activities of Bally Technologies and Playtech. We really do believe that within a few short months the face of online gambling in the USA, and most probably the world, is going to change. This will open the door for a more diverse offering of online casinos, as new operators move into the lucrative online gambling market. We already have the likes of social gaming giant Zynga waiting in the wings for the online gambling market to become legalized in the USA, and we are certain that there are plenty more companies, who will undoubtedly drive innovation, just waiting for a chance to compete with the established online casino operators.
