Illinois Legalizes Online Gambling

March 29, 2013

Anyone who enjoys online gambling, and likes to play online casino sites whilst living in the USA, is no doubt up to speed on the emerging trend to legalize online gambling in certain American states.

For those of you who have been asleep, a quick recap. Last year, the Nevada Gaming Control Board began accepting applications for localized online gambling licenses from online casino operators. The first was recently granted. Since then, Delaware and New Jersey have followed the example set by Nevada, and have done the same.

We have just heard that the Illinois Senate Committee has finally voted on the long proposed online gambling expansion bill, and that the results were 10-4, which sees the bill being passed, and Illinois is now another prospective State of America for online casino companies to target.

On top of this, the local authority, the Department of Lottery, has set up a new division, the Division of Internet Gambling that will oversee the changes that passing this bill will undoubtedly bring. The Division of Internet Gambling is likely to act in a similar fashion to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and its equivalent entities in both Delaware and New Jersey, and start accepting application for online gambling licenses from online casino providers, with a view to allowing them to provide online casino access to Illinois residents.

However, there is a clause built into this new bill, what is termed a “bad actor” clause, and this disbars any party form offering online gambling services within Illinois, that can be proven to have broken any USA laws in the past. So this may well disbar many of the large online casino sites, who have continued to operate in the USA, despite online gambling being illegal. This could lead to a very interesting situation indeed!

It’s all good news for us though, the online gambling fans who would love to play at a truly legal online casino, even if it means moving to Delaware, New Jersey, Illinois of Nevada to do so! We think that eventually, most American States will follow suit and that online gabling will soon be available legally across the whole USA.
