International Game Technology (IGT) Expands in Italy

January 14, 2013

The Gruppo Lottomatica SpA group is the operating company of the Italian state lottery. A long time operator in this field, Lottomatica is now looking to expand its service offering into a fully blown online casino.

International Game Technology (IGT) is a Las Vegas. ba

sed online gambling platform developer, that specialises in provide online casino operators with a full online gambling platform, under license agreement.

Lottomatica has now signed a deal with IGT to license the company’s full range of online gambling games for its new online casino site. This deal will see Lottomatica license the IGT developed iGaming platform, and initially deploy a range of online slot games. Recently changed online gambling legislation in Italy has opened up the online slots market significantly, and we believe this is exactly the reason why Lottomatica has now signed this deal with International Game Technology.

Robert Melendres, the Emerging Businesses Executive Vice-President for IGT, has stated that, “The combination of Lottomatica and IGT in the Italian market is exceedingly exciting. When you add the existing land-based video lottery terminal agreement with Lottomatica, we are delivering true game convergence to the player with IGT’s top-performing casino content in their homes and on their mobile devices.”

This is something of a coup for IGT, as the company has been losing market share in the last 12 months to online gambling software giants such as Microgaming, and to newly emerging companies such as Canadian based Amaya.

Guglielmo Angelozzi, Online and Gaming Machines Senior Vice-President Lottomatica, has stated that, “In addition to IGT providing game content for video lottery terminals in Italy, Lottomatica will also be able to distribute IGT's leading iGaming products in an integrated manner through diverse gaming channels such as smartphones and tablets We will provide Italian iGaming players with exciting new game content while facilitating responsible play, which has always been and is an integral part of Lottomatica’s daily operations.”

It seems quite apparent that Lottomatica is entirely serious about opening up the Italian online gambling market, and we cannot help but think this is a good thing for European online gambling fans.
