New Jersey Follows Nevada

February 27, 2013

We all knew this would happen, once Nevada opened the flood gates and legalized online gambling across the state early this week. It was just a question of which state would be next to follow the precedent set by Nevada. It was either going to be Delaware, or New Jersey, as both of these states were will along the route to making online casino play legal.

So it is without surprise that we can bring the news that it is actually New Jersey that has chosen to follow the example set by Nevada first. This is actually what we expected, as Nevada and New Jersey have often competed over commercial and economic situations before, and the changes to online gambling law to make online casino play legal, and the extra gambling tax revenue this will bring, is text book Nevada – New Jersey contention.

The Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie signed a bill on Tuesday that makes online gambling legal within the state of New Jersey. It would have been signed sooner, by Governor Christie requested some amendments to the new bill before he would sign it.

Governor Christie has said that, "This was a critical decision, and one that I did not make lightly. But with the proper regulatory framework and safeguards that I insisted on including in the bill, I am confident that we are offering a responsible yet exciting option that will make Atlantic City more competitive while also bringing financial benefits to New Jersey as a whole."

This is one of the rare occasions when a politician is actually speaking the plain and simple truth, and logic wins out. Online gambling will bring a massive amount of potential gambling tax revenue now that this bill has been signed and gambling law in New Jersey changed.

We can only hope that a torrent of other states follow suit, and we will be well on our way to seeing online gambling made full legal across the whole of the United States of America. Amazing!
