William Hill and Playtech in Dispute

December 26, 2012

William Hill is one of the largest, most trusted online gambling companies in the world. It operates a number of branded online casino sites, and has a very strong brand within the market.

Playtech is one of the top five developers of online gambling software, and support platforms licensed by online casino operations.

SportingBet is one of the most well-known, top performing sportsbook specialised online gambling sites in the world, with a massive customer base.

So when we hear of problems involving all three of these major online gambling companies, we just have to take notice, and we found some pretty interesting news. William Hill has agreed to purchase the SportingBet online casino/sportsbook site for a reported £485 million. However, Playtech, who are a trading partner of William Hill, has some problems with this proposed deal.

Playtech and William Hill are trading partners in the William Hill Online casino brand. William Hill asked for an evaluation of Playtech’s share in William Hill Online some time back, with a view to buying Playtech out. However, Playtech now insists that if William Hill goes ahead and acquires SportingBet it will devalue the Playtech share in William Hill Online.

Basically, the acquisition of SportingBet and its addition to the William Hill Online casinos sites, will severely inflate the value of the share of the company owned and operated by William Hill, and this will obviously negatively affect the valuation of Playtech’s 29% share in William Hill Online, which is not expected to be delivered before February.

We think this is a very sneaky move by William Hill. If they can get this SportingBet acquisition done with before February, they will end up saving on the cost of buying out Playtech from the William Hill Online casino company.

So keep an eye on this website in the coming weeks, we are sure that this argument will heat up considerably once the New Year arrives, and this could be a very exciting start to the New Year for all online gamblers. When major companies such as Playtech and William Hill start coming in to conflict, you just know that something interesting is going to occur as the outcome.
