Gamblers Prefer Slots

December 19, 2012

There has been a massive change in the playing habits of people using online gambling and online casino sites in the last couple of years. There has been a shift of focus away from traditional casino table games such as poker and blackjack, and towards video slots.

Interestingly, a survey just undertaken by the Oregon State University (OSO) has just revealed that gamblers, who play at real world casinos, also prefer slots. We are not surprised to learn of this parity.

The results of this Oregon State University survey show that some 70-90% of gamblers in real world casino prefer slots over any other casino game. The OSU states the main reason for this is the fact that slots require little skill to learn to play, rely almost entirely on luck, and are fun and engaging to play.

These findings, and the assumptions drawn from them, would seem to carry over to online casino sites, and video slots. A new player at on online gambling site will struggle to pick up the format of online poker, ever if they are a committed poker player in the real world. On the other hand, video slots are easy to learn, and a heck of a lot of fun to play! Parallels between the OSU study, and what we see every day at online casino sites can be drawn.

So we don’t find these results of the survey undertaken by the Oregon State University surprising in the least, if the OSO had spent some time checking out the massive changes we have seen in the online gambling market, and the way that most large online casino sites have begun to push video slots over other games, they could have saved themselves the effort of undertaking this research!

As technology pushes the envelope, video slots begin to outpace their real world counterparts in terms of graphics, sound and gameplay features. So we fully expect video slots to be the number one online gambling game for the foreseeable future, simply as they are so much fun to play, whether you win or lose!
